Walk Your BLUES Away

Walk Your Blues Away is a unique musical experience, where we invite you to join us on a walk along Bruthen’s wonderful rail trial, where you will find fabulous artists and musicians sharing experiences, poems, songs and laughter. This tour of short works helps to promote conversations and understanding around the mental health issues so many of us are touched by.

On Saturday 17th, first walk leaves at 1.30pm, leaving approximately every 15minutes. Bookings essential, just go the Information Desk located in the market along Service St.  $5 per person (U/18 free) OR free with wristband.

For the past 6 years singer/songwriter Madeline Hudson has had the jolly good fortune and inspired, pantomime pleasure of playing strange and delightful characters in two well renowned Melbourne based performance companies : ‘Porcelain Punch’, a contemporary vaudeville ensemble and ‘Zucchini Clan ~ Music for free range kids!’, a family friendly musical outfit. Madeline has toured extensively with both shows and continues to create musically captivating curiosities, most recently performing ‘caravan candy noir’ with founding Porcelain Punch member Emilie Bloom in the ‘Penny Candy’ arcade show.

Smoke Stack Rhino believe in playing the blues, LOUD but this time two members of the group go acoustic. Formed in 2013 around the idea of ‘bringing the blues to the ‘moshpit’, the group has combined the emotion of Chicago/ Delta blues with the raw tenacity of early 90s grunge to deliver a performance that is a knock out on stage and powerful on record. The band’s music is based on open-tuned Gretsch guitars, funky slap bass, hard -hitting drums and dual vocalists.

Todd’s emotive lyrics, earthy tones and raw appeal connect to a wide variety of listeners. His songs float from intricate folk fingerpicking styles to driving rhythms that stir the soul. His stories of Australian landscapes and people are accompanied with mesmerising instrumentation and a depth that always engages and entertains.

Steph is an old soul in a new body belting out blues. Known for playing with many guitars, cigar boxes, foot percussion, slide techniques and chillingly soulful vocals, Steph spawns the blues with a modern twist at an exciting new level in her performances. Whether it’s a festival, a hidden away pub or professional venue, the vibe is never dull with this young lass.

Kate has always loved making things. She has never known a time when she wasn’t making curios and drawing what she saw around her. Kate is strongly inspired by the beauty in nature and by the rivers, lakes and beaches of East Gippsland. Kate mostly creates work out of metal and has for many years. In particular, she loves the warmth and malleability of copper, which she has lately been using in her current work. She also enjoys painting in oils or acrylics and has contributed to local murals in our community. She believes art is for everyone, and sometimes teaches and mentor students.
