Come and learn from the people who LOVE what they do, and are really good at it.  Workshops offer a unique experience, whether a beginner or the long-term player, where enjoying yourself is the order of the day.

Harmonica with CHRIS WILSON

Saturday 17th 3pm – 4pm

Cost – $20 ($10 with wristband)

Where – Retro Room, Bruthen Inn Hotel

Come and learn harmonica from the master himself! Chris Wilson has been an essential part of Australian blues music since taking the stage with the Sole Twisters over 20 years ago.  He is considered one of Australia’s finest vocalists, harmonica players and songwriters, and he is coming to Bruthen to not only play at the Big Blues Bash on Saturday night, but also to run this great workshop. BYO your own harmonica, or purchase on the day at Bruthen Music on Main St.

Guitar with GEOFF ACHISON

Saturday 17th 4.30pm – 5.30pm

Cost – $20 ($10 with wristband)

Where – Retro Room, Bruthen Inn Hotel

Geoff Achison has a wealth of experience from playing electric blues with the great Dutch Tilders to mastering solo acoustic guitar and eventually leading his own bands around the world. He will demonstrate and discuss his personal playing technique as well as tips for arranging, song writing and performance. Bring your axe and be inspired by this internationally acclaimed musician.

Introduction to the Didgeridoo with RICHARD PERSO

Saturday 17th 3pm to 4pm

Cost – $20 ($10 with wristband)

Where – back room at Bruthen Community Health Centre

Good fun for all ages. Come and learn the techniques for playing the didgeridoo and create the wonderful timbre hum of this great instrument.  Bring along your own didgeridoo, or even a length of polypipe at least a metre long, cardboard wrapper tube or any tube you can blow into! Richard will have you playing in 20minutes by providing great tips on breathing as well as sounds and effects. This workshop will be conducted respecting local traditions.

Guitar and voice with MIKE ELRINGTON

Sunday 18th  12midday – 1pm

Cost – $20 ($10 with wristband)

Well known for his powerful combination of red hot guitar skills and vocals, Mike will show you how to put the two together so they enhance each other.   Mike is a Bruthen Blues and Arts Festival favourite and in 2016, he won the Acoustic/Singer-Song Writer section at the Australian Independent Music Awards. Come along and learn from this amazing master of acoustic guitar.  BYO guitar.

Sing Around the World with EVA GRUNDEN

Saturday 17th  1pm to 2pm

Cost – $5 (free with wristband)

Where – Bruthen Hall, main room

Learn uplifting songs from all around the world in this fun workshop. No previous singing experience required – EVERYONE welcome

Marimbas Workshop with PETER MAY

Saturday 17th  12noon – 1.30pm

Cost – $5/children by donation (free with wristband)

Where – Bruthen Hall Supper Room

Marimbas make it possible for everyone to be a musician. Young or not-so young, beginner or virtuoso, come and join Peter and his Marimbas to make music with confidence and quality. For over ten years now, Peter has been constructing Marimbas following the Jon Madin designs and even designing some of his own. He has used these instruments in schools, workshops and entertainment throughout Gippsland.

Marimbas are really a rustic xylophone (wood-sound). These larger instruments accommodate up to three players who share the three octave range of bars with varying degrees of intimacy! All instruments and instruction supplied.

Instrument Making with BRUTHEN PRIMARY SCHOOL

Saturday 17th  11am to 1pm

Cost – free

Where – market area, kid’s zone!

Kids are invited to hang out with Bruthen Primary School and make shakers, clickers and mini banjos! This workshop will be a creative kid’s space where anything goes, mistakes are rad, and there is stacks of room for experimentation.  All materials will be recycled and possibly edible!
