There’s a young guy getting around the Australian music scene with a quickly developing talent and an infectious love of life. 20 year old MATTHEW BENTLEY loves surfing, hanging out with friends and making music.
Even while finishing Year 12 in 2017, Matthew was writing songs, honing his guitar and vocal abilities, and attracting fans. Two years later he is finishing the year in a big way with two new song releases and a three-month tour.
With A SONG FOR YOU now digitally available, Matthew commenced a five-state swing in Western Australia in October and is working his way through 35 shows to finish on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast at the end of December.
After seven shows in the West, Matthew will stop at Adelaide before dropping into Melbourne’s famed music venue The Workers Club, making a splash in some Murray River towns, taking his board down to Victoria’s Surf Coast, then rolling through a series of shows in Gippsland.
From there, Matthew’s big white van will take him up the NSW coast for shows at places like Newcastle, Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour and Belingen, before the Miami Marketta and Solbar on the Sunshine Coast.
Meanwhile, fans are getting into A SONG FOR YOU on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Google Play, YouTube Music and Amazon’s Prime Music. It is also now on the Triple J Unearthed site.
Matthew’s music career has ascended steadily since gaining second place out of more than 200 acts from around Victoria in the 2017 FReeZA Push Start competition at the St Kilda Festival where he won the APRA Songwriter Award. Also that year he opened for Sydney singer and actor Keegan Joyce at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre.
Then came 2018 and Matthew’s highly successful WAKE UP EP, the title track having attracted airplay and thousands of streams and downloads. The professionally-produced ‘Wake Up’ clip that showed Matthew in his natural habitat by the ocean is still enjoying frequent online views.
He also opened for the great blues guitarist/singer Lloyd Spiegel at Live at the Bundy in 2018, performed three songs on the Live at Spectrum TV show and appeared at the Bruthen Blues Festival.
Since then, 2019 has seen a busy schedule of shows, song-writing and recording, culminating with the tour and music releases. A full list of shows for the ‘A Song for You’ tour is on Matthew’s website.
